Brexit: European health experts emphasise dangers to patient safety of no deal

A no deal Brexit would have disastrous consequences for patients and public health services on both sides of the English Channel, a wide ranging, informal group of health professionals has warned.

They pointed to problems in the supply of drugs and medical devices, damage to EU-wide medical collaboration and research, disruption to training and to mutual recognition of qualifications, and weakening of European coordination on pandemic preparedness and tackling antimicrobial resistance. UK nationals would no longer be able to use the European health insurance card on the continent, nor EU citizens in the UK.
