Richard (“Dick”) Frank Ciezak’s parents were Polish; they chose to relocate to the UK at the end of the second world war. His father had fought in the allied army and took part in the D Day landings. Dick was bilingual and was always very proud of his father and of his Polish roots.

He qualified from St Mary’s Hospital Medical School and followed this with vocational training for general practice in Swindon. He joined …
