GPs should provide tailored support to people bereaved by suicide, says NICE

GPs should help to identify people who are bereaved or otherwise affected by a suspected suicide and offer them information and tailored support, the UK National Institute for Health and Care Excellence has said.1

NICE’s new quality standard on suicide prevention comes as the latest data from the Office for National Statistics show that the prevalence of suicide in the UK has risen for the first time since 2013.2
