Dewan Wahedun Nabi (“Waheed”) completed his MBBS qualifications in Rajshahi Medical College, Bangladesh in 1967. He came to the UK in the 1970s to achieve further postgraduate qualifications.
He used to say that his first ambition had been to be a professional football player, but his father encouraged him to switch to cricket, as this was considered a “gentleman’s sport”; unfortunately he broke his arm and concentrated on his studies.
Waheed did his training in Yorkshire and the West Midlands. He gained membership of the Royal College of Psychiatrists in 1983 and the Diploma in Psychological Medicine soon after. He was appointed consultant psychiatrist for old age at Rotherham District General Hospital in 1992. He was extremely proud to be awarded fellowship of the RCPsych in 2004. He retired in 2008 but …
