Catherine Helen Roberts (“Cathy”) studied preclinical medicine at St Catherine’s College, Oxford, in 1996-99. She gained an MA Hons (Oxon) in physiological sciences before transferring to University College London Medical School for her clinical studies. After junior doctor posts in central London and a post in Thailand, she pursued her interest in infections and gained a specialty training number in infectious diseases and medical microbiology. She enjoyed the challenge of the tropical diseases she encountered while working at the Hospital for Tropical Diseases and the rare and imported pathogens laboratory at Porton Down before taking an out-of-programme period for research (OOPR) in this area.
