GMC will regulate physician associates, government announces

The General Medical Council will regulate physician associates (PAs) and anaesthesia associates (AAs) across the UK, the Department of Health and Social Care has announced.1
The GMC said it was working with the department to determine when it will begin regulating the two professions, as well as how the process will be funded. The regulator said the move would ensure all trainees get the support they need to provide safe care.
The announcement follows lengthy discussions over who should regulate the associates.
