David Gwyn Thomas was born in Wells, Somerset, the only child of Welsh parents. A talented academic, sportsman, and pianist, he obtained a scholarship to read medicine at Middlesex Hospital in 1957. There he met his future wife, Eileen, a student nurse at University College Hospital next door. He worshipped at Westminster Chapel under the pastor, Martyn Lloyd-Jones, and developed a deep and abiding faith …
