BMA launches tool to help consultants with charges
The BMA launched a new pension modelling tool for its members,1 to allow consultants to calculate future annual allowance charges more accurately. The tool, designed by the consultant Tony Goldstone, covers specialists in all four UK nations enrolled in the 1995 and 2015 pension schemes. The BMA said that Goldstone would also develop the tool to cover consultants on the 2008 contract, GPs, staff and associate specialists, armed forces doctors, and medical academics. These updates will be exclusively for BMA members.

England rolls out vaccination for year 8 boys
Schoolboys in year 8 (ages 12-13) will be offered the free human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine from this September, Public Health England announced. The move was welcomed by David Elliman, immunisation expert for the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health, who said, “In time this will lead to a significant reduction in cancers of the anus, penis, and head and neck. The latter is currently increasing in incidence, but this trend will be turned around as the vaccination programme takes effect in the future.”
