Trainees are unsure of where to get help with everyday work problems, survey finds

A national survey of doctors in training has found that many are unsure of where to go for wellbeing and occupational health support.

Just under 95% of all UK doctors in training (53 477) responded to the GMC’s 2019 national training survey, as did 45% of trainers (21 812).1

In a report on its initial findings, the GMC said that a third of trainees (33%) were unsure of who to contact in their trust or board to discuss matters relating to occupational health and wellbeing.

For the first time, the GMC survey also asked trainees about the facilities available to them at work, including wifi, common rooms, and hot food at night.
