Invasive strep A outbreak in Essex leaves 12 people dead

A dozen people have died in Essex after an outbreak of invasive group A streptococcal (iGAS) disease.1
NHS Mid Essex Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) has reported 32 cases of iGAS to date in the area, mostly among elderly people who had treatment for wounds in care homes and their own homes. The CCG said that 12 people have died as a result of the infection.
