Derek Mathieson

Derek Mathieson was born in Aberdeen on 1 November 1956. He won a scholarship and attended Robert Gordon’s College, where he achieved top grades and gained entry to the medical school at Aberdeen University in 1974. His intention was always to enter into general practice. After qualifying he completed the requisite training and passed a final exam despite attending Aberdeen’s win over Real Madrid in Gothenburg in 1983 a few days earlier.
