Trump halts government fetal tissue research

Scientists working for the US government at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) may no longer conduct research using fetal tissue from elective abortions, according to a new Trump administration policy.

When their current stocks run out, they will not be replenished. About 200 NIH sponsored fetal tissue research projects at universities will continue to get federal funding until their current grants expire, but must then face an ethics panel convened by health secretary Alex Azar.
