Surgeon’s suspension shortened by just a month after new hearing demanded by High Court

A consultant orthopaedic surgeon who won a High Court appeal against a three month suspension from the UK medical register has now been suspended for two months instead at a new medical practitioners tribunal hearing.

The result means that, after a trip to the High Court and a new tribunal hearing, Mohammed Sait’s suspension from the register has been shortened by just one month.

A previous hearing found in April 2018 that Sait had acted with sexual motivation in meeting a woman who had recently stopped being his patient. But at the High Court last November Mr Justice Mostyn quashed that tribunal’s three month suspension, ruling that a “remarkable failure” to cross examine the doctor about his alleged sexual motivation constituted “procedural unfairness.” Mostyn sent the case back …
