Campaigners have called on global leaders to commit to ending female genital mutilation/cutting (FGM/C) after Kenya’s president, Uhuru Kenyatta, vowed to end the practice in his country by 2022, eight years ahead of the sustainable development goal.
At the opening of the Women Deliver conference to end gender inequality held in Vancouver, Canada on 3 June, Kenyatta promised to work towards empowering women in Kenya by making secondary education compulsory for all children, which he said would help to discourage child marriage.
