Clinicians, the police, and local government are joining forces in Merseyside to use a public health approach to try to prevent violent incidents and tackle the underlying factors behind a recent increase in serious crime.
Merseyside’s police and crime commissioner, Jane Kennedy, has appointed John Ashton, former regional director of public health for northwest England and senior consultant adviser to the World Health Organisation’s “Healthy Cities” project, to spearhead the scheme.
