Ameratunga and colleagues call for legal reform akin to New Zealand.1 I agree, but we should be under no illusion of the huge blocks to progress. The cost of medical negligence claims went up 30% in a year to £2.2bn in 2017-18.2 Spending this staggering sum of money on litigation hinders change.
