Stephan Elias Tchamouroff was born in Jerusalem to Bulgarian parents. After joining the Jordanian army he was sent on a scholarship to study medicine at St Bartholomew’s Hospital, London. During his time as a medical student, Stephan also trained for a period as a singer under the conductor Sir Thomas Beecham. However, he eschewed a career as a tenor to pursue his first love, medicine.
