Re: Questions over future of global diabetes group as founding members resign

At a time when Diabetes is soaring in numbers to the concern of public health authority because of organ and system dysfunction and complications , and resultant cost over- runs , scientific global diabetes group in disarray is certainly bad news. Generating funds from industry is a tactful job where drawing a line and maintaining the right distance can be tight rope walk or else the relation can turn 'cosy '. Separating diabetes from NCD can be a huge error as it happens to be at the
core of vascular health. At no time in past , have links between diabetes and coronary heart disease understood than at present. Lastly it could be a worrisome matter that trend in organisational breakups and spate of resignations ( recollect Cochrane) in scientific , clinical research and academic groups disrupt the fabric of functioning. It is time that purpose takes over personalities while keeping industry at a safe distance. Dr Murar Yeolekar., Mumbai.
