Depression surely ranks first as regards economic costs.
The annual Global Economic Burden of mental illnesses was $2.5 trillion in 2010, and is projected to become $6 trillion by 2030. [5-table 13][4][6][7]
The total cost of all new cases of cancer worldwide in 2030 will only rise to $458 billion. [5-page 35-Box 11]
The total cost of all diabetes cases worldwide in 2030 will only rise to $745 billion. [5-page 35-Box 11]
