Gerald Haase grew up in Glasgow, and, after attending Glasgow Academy, he followed in his father’s footsteps to study medicine at Glasgow University. After his house jobs, Gerald worked in haematology, initially at Stobhill Hospital, Glasgow. He then moved to Edinburgh, where he rose to senior registrar, working with the Scottish Blood Transfusion Service. He then chose to leave clinical medicine to work in the pharmaceutical industry.
