It’s winter, so where’s the winter meltdown?

This year the traditional lament has fallen silent. There’s even been some positive mood music from NHS England, claiming in its weekly reports that the system is working well.

Is that even possible?

December 2018 wasn’t bad, to be fair: bed occupancy, emergency department waiting times, and ambulance handover delays were all better than in December 2017.
