The newly appointed chair of the Supporting Women in Gastroenterology (SWiG) group of the British Society of Gastroenterology talks about its work

“There are about 1500 gastroenterology consultants in the UK but only 21% are women, so it’s important that we support the rising demographic of female gastroenterologists.

“I joined the Supporting Women in Gastroenterology group about 18 months ago and I think I was asked to be chair because I’m loud, bossy, and fairly opinionated. I’m not sensitive about saying things that other people are thinking but are maybe too scared to say.
