More doctors need to train as expert witnesses, says MPS

NHS employers should make it easier for doctors to be relieved of clinical duties to act as expert witnesses in court and at medical practitioners tribunal hearings, a leading doctors’ defence body has urged.

This could include modifying employment contracts to give the expert witness role more prominence and to provide greater certainty for doctors wishing to undertake the role, argued the UK Medical Protection Society.
