Peter Hubner was born in London in 1942, the third son of a Czech antiques dealer who emigrated to England after the first world war. Peter developed an interest in the sciences during his secondary school years at St Benedict’s School in Ealing and qualified with prizes and a distinction from the Middlesex Hospital Medical School in 1965.
After junior house officer posts in London, Peter completed his first senior house officer post in cardiology at Groby Road Hospital in Leicester with Drs Lawson and Goldberg. He returned to London to complete specialist training in adult and paediatric cardiology, acquiring experience in coronary care, cardiac pacing, and cardiac catheterisation for congenital and adult heart disease.
