GPs now order more than three times as many diagnostic tests as they did 15 years ago, dramatically increasing practices’ workload, a study published in The BMJ shows.1
Using figures from the UK General Practices in the Clinical Practice Research Datalink, researchers at the universities of Oxford, Bristol, and Southampton looked at the change in numbers of tests ordered by general practices between 1 April 2000 and 31 March 2016.
