Felicity Clare Edwards (née Toussaint) was born in London. Her father, Charles Hugh Christie Toussaint, was a specialist in respiratory medicine who took care of tuberculosis patients in the prewar and postwar years. Her mother, Nora Cecilia, was an artist, she trained as an auxiliary during the war. She volunteered as a braille translator. Felicity was a Quaker by upbringing. She attended at Sidcot School in Somerset and Somerville College in Oxford, followed by the Middlesex Hospital in London.
