Michael Robert William King (“Mike”) was born in Chichester, son of Peter and Sally and brother of Elizabeth. He studied natural sciences at Robinson College, Cambridge, and subsequently undertook an MSc in engineering and physical science in medicine at Imperial College, London, before completing his medical degree at King’s College, London. Mike was appointed as a consultant radiologist at Queen Alexandra Hospital, Portsmouth, in 2008 and became director of breast screening in 2012. He later also became joint clinical director.
At medical school, Mike was a popular student and excelled academically, gaining a distinction in medical finals. He was equally adept at parodying himself, as well as his peers, and could have fellow students in fits of laughter as he impersonated the professors around the wards. His …
