Professor must be supervised for three years after improperly pursuing emotional relationship with patient

A professor of clinical nephrology at King’s College Hospital in London who told a patient that he was “a bit infatuated” with her must work under supervised conditions for three years after a medical practitioners’ tribunal accepted his claim that he did not want a sexual relationship, but found that he had improperly pursued an emotional one.

Iain Macdougall, 57, telephoned five times and left a voicemail over a few days in 2016, telling a patient who struggled with alcoholism that “you kind of, slightly, got under my skin” and that “you should take it as a massive compliment that you attract doctors.”
