Rapid responses are electronic comments to the editor. They enable our users to debate issues raised in articles published on bmj.com. A rapid response is first posted online. If you need the URL (web address) of an individual response, simply click on the response headline and copy the URL from the browser window. A proportion of responses will, after editing, be published online and in the print journal as letters, which are indexed in PubMed. Rapid responses are not indexed in PubMed and they are not journal articles. The BMJ reserves the right to remove responses which are being wilfully misrepresented as published articles.
Thank you to David Oliver for pointing out inaccuracies in the Daily mails reporting of GP's working in the private sector. I have had a small private practice for twenty years. It is marvellous to have enough time to take a full history, thoroughly examine a patient and explain their conditions. After having had a handful of clinical interactions I go home energised, and reminded of how much I enjoy being a doctor. The real scandal is why so many colleagues are being driven away from NHS practice. I would encourage colleagues to dip a toe in the private sector, it may reinvigorate you and sustain your NHS practice for a little longer.
