Rapid Response:

Free tuition- Step(?) in right direction

NYU has joined the ranks of Cleveland Clinic and a few others in providing free tuition medical education. This is a step in the right direction, albeit too far.

The need of the hour is not "free" tuition but reasonable tuition.

Currently, medical schools in the USA are charging $60-70 k or more per year. Those numbers are nothing but profit making. If one takes into account the cost of providing education, it will be much lower. Most institutions are just making money. These numbers are in line with many private 4 year non-medical degree colleges.

I am not even sure if any of these institutes go through financial audit.

When community colleges can provide education with less money, it is entirely possible to apply the same principles to the private colleges.

Congress should step in and set up a commission who can come up with a reasonable fee structure for all colleges, rather than the current exorbitant arbitrary numbers which only provide money to their CEOs and do nothing to further education.

The need of the hour is not "free" but reasonable tuition fees.
