Hadiza Bawa-Garba wins right to practise again

Hadiza Bawa-Garba, the trainee paediatrician whose erasure from the UK medical register provoked a storm of protest from doctors around the world, has won her appeal to be allowed to practise again.1

She was found guilty of gross negligence manslaughter in November 2015 for contributing to the death of 6 year old Jack Adcock from septic shock at Leicester Royal Infirmary.2 A medical practitioners tribunal, which took account of systemic failings at the hospital and the extreme pressure under which she was working, decided to suspend her for 12 months rather than strike her off.3 But the General Medical Council (GMC) appealed to the High Court, which erased her from the register in January 2018.4
