Stephen William Valentine Coppinger (“Steve”) was born in Vancouver, Canada. His father served in the Canadian Army as a gynaecologist and obstetrician, and Steve spent part of his childhood at Fort Churchill, on the shores of Hudson’s Bay. This early experience of the wilderness left a lasting impression on him, and he acquired a lifelong love of the outdoors. He subsequently worked in northern Canada as a professional guide.
