Alastair James Watt was born in Chingola, Zambia. He excelled at sport and played rugby for Norwich, Barts, University of London, and Saracens. He was a fine athlete, competing for the Hackney Harriers. He still holds the U16’s 400 m record at his school (58.7 seconds).
