Re: Over 1500 visa applications from doctors blocked in four months

Interesting article, but there is an additional way; why not encourage international medical students studying at UK medical schools to work in the UK? Especially for foundation year 1 and foundation year 2 jobs. International medical students form a large cohort collectively (7.5% of the total intake for each of the 33 UK medical schools is allocated to international medical students [1]). They are familiar with the NHS being brought up within the system and are highly capable (competition for a place in medical school among overseas applicants can be as high as 37:1 [2]) and they will also have the required competencies having come through the UK medical school system.

Win-win situation, international medical students feel more appreciated and get the opportunity to further their training in a familiar environment, hospitals benefit from having the extra workforce from qualified competent products of the UK medical school system.
