Nutrition experts from the NHS, academia, local government, television, and think tanks have told MPs that the ongoing battle to reduce childhood obesity must be fought on several fronts.
The introduction of a soft drinks industry levy last month was a positive step but not enough to deal with the growing obesity problem, they said during an evidence session of the parliamentary health and social care committee on 1 May.
The committee’s new inquiry into childhood obesity precedes the next chapter of the government’s Plan for Action,1 expected later this year. MPs asked what was needed in this plan.
