Born in south Manchester, Kerry Fiona Watt was educated at Canon Slade School in Bolton and entered Birmingham University Medical School with A levels gained at Blackburn College. At school she completed the Duke of Edinburgh silver award.

Kerry was a sporting soul and enjoyed skiing, climbing, swimming, and hockey. She took up an army cadetship in 2003, which facilitated her love of skiing and travel, enabling her to visit six continents. She completed officer training at Sandhurst College, passing out in 2008.
