Alf Collins is clinical director for personalised care at NHS England. He has worked as a frontline clinician, researcher, and commissioner and has written widely on shared decision making, self management support, personalised care planning, patient empowerment, and “clinician activation.” He is a visiting professor of person centred care at Coventry University and an honorary fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and the Royal College of General Practitioners.
