Re: Large study is “robust” evidence of link between chronic heavy drinking and dementia
I suppose it's helpful to have such evidence of what was always assumed - at least by me - to be a definite link. I wonder how many other assumptions need to be tested in this way: Conventional wisdom on an association between cold weather and excess deaths is but one example, I suggest. Yet proof in other instances can be hard to come by, with confounding factors difficult to exclude, and a lack of controls limiting conclusions of cause and effect. What would be really useful to find out is whether chronic heavy drinking is preventable, and how.
