Surgeons urge NHS England to ban minimum waits

The Royal College of Surgeons has urged NHS England to stop clinical commissioning groups imposing minimum waiting times that result in some patients waiting at least three months to see a specialist.
A freedom of information request sent by the college found several examples of CCGs that had imposed minimum waiting times for non-urgent surgery in an effort to save money. These included South West Lincolnshire CCG, which has contractual agreements with three hospitals in its area stating that patients cannot receive routine elective care before 12 weeks. …
