BMA urges government to reverse public health cuts

Government cuts to public health funding must be reversed to stop health inequalities from widening, the BMA has urged.

In a new briefing paper,1 the association says that reductions to local authorities’ public health budgets in England are leading to “unacceptable variation” in the quality and availability of services. “This is likely to have a detrimental impact on population health, increase future demand for treatment services, and [risk] widening health inequalities,” it warns.
