Peter Sykes was the prize medallist in the final year at the University of Sheffield in both clinical medicine and surgery, but he was destined to become a consultant psychiatrist. He had an illustrious career spanning the years 1954 to 1995, and at 29 he was the youngest doctor in England to be appointed as a consultant.
