Janet McLelland (“Jan”) grew up in Newcastle. She was a research fellow at the Royal Postgraduate Medical School, where she completed her MD thesis, “Studies Relating to Langerhans Cell Histiocytosis.” Higher training was with Sam Shuster in Newcastle, where Jan won the David Dickson research prize for her studies on contact allergic dermatitis in 1991.
Jan was appointed consultant dermatologist in Sunderland in 1991 and moved to her long term consultant post in Newcastle in 1995. Her main clinical subspecialty was genital dermatosis, and she brought together other specialists and a multidisciplinary team to develop an outstanding service. In …
