Charlie Gard dies in hospice after High Court rules against prolonging life support

Charlie Gard, the terminally ill baby with infantile onset encephalomyopathic mitochondrial DNA depletion syndrome, died on Friday 28 July. He was taken off a ventilator after a High Court ruling that life support should not be prolonged.
After abandoning their four month legal battle with Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children for Charlie to be flown to the US for experimental treatment, his parents, Connie Yates and Chris Gard, applied to the High Court on Monday 24 July asking that they could spend “a week or so” in a hospice with their son before he was taken off the ventilator.
