Noisy knees may be early sign of knee osteoarthritis

Patients who report that they hear grating, cracking, or popping sounds in or around the knee joint may be at increased risk of developing knee osteoarthritis, a study published in Arthritis Care & Research has found.1
Patients frequently ask doctors whether crepitus—such sounds in or around a joint—is a problem. The researchers said that theirs is the first study to find an association between self reported crepitus and incident symptomatic knee osteoarthritis.
