Simon Wessely, president of the Royal College of Psychiatrists, drew on his family involvement in the story of the Kindertransport children when he argued last week that the United Kingdom shouldn’t close the door to unaccompanied child refugees. Between 1938 and 1940 over 9000 children, most of them Jewish, were brought from Germany, Austria, Czechoslovakia, and Poland to the UK as part of the Kindertransport rescue efforts.
