A consultant gynaecologist whose former patients have made 85 legal claims against NHS trusts has been struck off the UK medical register for conducting private practice for nearly four and a half years without indemnity cover and lying about it.
Rod Irvine, 63, worked as a consultant with the now defunct South London Healthcare NHS Trust. The General Medical Council received a string of patient complaints about him from 2011 to 2014, the first of which came from a private patient who wished to sue Irvine and told the GMC that he had no indemnity cover.
