Children’s diabetes control improves but gaps in care remain, audit finds

More than a quarter of children in England and Wales with diabetes now have excellent blood glucose control, while the number said to have poor control has fallen, the latest paediatric audit has found.1
It found signs, however, that some children are not getting the care they need. The 2015-16 audit found that 13.8% had early signs of eye disease, up from 12.8% in 2014-15. Children with type 1 diabetes were also more likely to be overweight or obese than the general population.
