Over a third of children aged 10-11 in England are overweight or obese

More than a third of children aged 10-11 are overweight or obese, national figures in England have shown.1 Child health experts now describe the level of childhood obesity in the United Kingdom as a “state of emergency.”

The figures for 2015-16 come from the national child measurement programme, which measures height and weight in more than a million children in reception class (aged 4-5) and in year six (aged 10-11) in schools in England each year.
