I certainly didn’t ask to be ICEd. Having reacted initially with anxiety that whatever I said I was going to fail the diagnostic test, and look silly in front of this doctor’s expertise, I quickly went through the ‘He doesn’t know what the diagnosis is himself’, to ‘I can’t be part of this game’ and this made me so angry that I got up and walked out of the door. At the time – 15 years ago -- I assumed it was this particular doctor’s problem, since I had never encountered it elsewhere, but now I wonder. Were training courses suggesting ICEing as long ago as that?
