Emergency doctor is new MP for Tooting, south London

Rosena Allin-Khan, an emergency department doctor at St George’s Hospital in London, was voted in as the Labour MP for Tooting in a by-election on 16 June. The seat was vacated by Sadiq Khan when he became mayor of London.

BMA leader attacks UK government for “wasted year” on seven day NHS

Mark Porter, BMA council chair, accused the UK government of “a wasted year” in which it pursued its seven day NHS policy in a vacuum of evidence rather than dealing with the financial crisis in the service. Speaking at the BMA’s annual representatives meeting, he said that a line in the Conservatives’ 2015 election manifesto, to deliver “a truly seven day NHS,” had led to a “needless dispute with [the medical] profession.”
